Kids Helping Kids: Update
The children, parents and staff of Myers Elementary in Grand Blanc, Michigan received a hearty thank you from Katrina battered Pecan Park Elementary in Ocean Springs, Mississippi for their support during the 2005 - 2006 school year. Myers' families prepared over 700lbs of classroom supplies, clothing, non perishable snacks, backpacks, new and gently used books for their library, cards, notes and letters of encouragement were sent to their kids.
Pecan Park was the beneficiary of our bake sales and other efforts where funds were raised by the children, families and Myers' Staff. Mr. Clarence Garner, Principal of Myers Elementary, created a separate fund where family and friends of our local community could also take part and add to our contributions.
We ran into difficulty trying to secure transportation for our door to door shipment and this caused a great deal of concern not to mention the delay. Many promised, but only one company delivered the goods for us without hesitation -- ABF Freight System, Inc. Without their support none of this would have been possible. Terminal Operations: Thank you for making it happen as quickly as you did --- you turned on a dime and saved our effort. We can't thank you enough.
I'd also like to thank the Flint, MI South Linden Road FedEx Kinko's Office and Print Center for their contribution in helping us get the word out. They donated paper and printed our flyers without charge. For helping us spreading the word to our larger community, our thanks also go to Flint, Michigan's WJRT TV, ABC12.
My personal thanks goes to our Principal, Mr. Clarence Garner and the Myers' staff for saying, yes. You backed us every step of the way. Thank you for leading your 3rd grade class and really putting your heart into this Mrs. Boegner!
For my friend and fellow Myers' Mom, Jenny Ream, thanks for your quick wit, encouragement and never letting me leave your doorstep without another idea or needed connection. And to my husband Dennis, for returning from your business trip to China totally exhausted yet getting up early and going to school to help wrap, pack , tape and stack boxes anyway.
To my sisters and brothers in law, Gina & Matt, Heidi & Joel; my nephews Michael, Christopher, Jacob, Matthew, Victor; my nieces Christina and Michelle; my brother and sister in law, Steve and Victoria and my mother and father in law, Larry and Guido --your life changing ordeal was our personal source of inspiration. When Katrina hit you --- it hit us, too.
To all those affected by Katrina --- may the coming year be a healing one.
Cash Contributions: Tax deductible checks are to be made payable to Myers Hurricane Relief Fund -- a special fund dedicated strictly to Pecan Park. All checks are to be mailed to Myers Elementary School at 6085 Sun Valley Dr, Grand Blanc, MI 48439. If you need a receipt, please let me know and I'll ensure one is sent. Thank you for your support!
